Last week we went and watched "Inside Out 2".
A very powerful movie. They do a really good job of capturing the brain. The first movie captures little Rules brain, growing up, going through changes, facing tough situations, and overcoming obstacles. The second movie focuses on the changes of the teenage brain facing puberty. I kept looking over at my daughter, thinking omg this makes sense! The rush of hormones, the pressures of fitting in, peers dominating over family, and anxiety.
For those who have not seen the movie yet. I highly suggest watching it with your kiddos. It will help you both understand what's going on inside. Bringing you closer together.
Here are some tidbit take aways from the movie (thanks to Google Gemini - my new best friend)
"Inside Out" 1 & 2 offer a plethora of lessons beyond the ones already discussed. Here's a deeper dive into some additional takeaways:
From "Inside Out" (1):
The Importance of Sadness: Sadness isn't just an emotion to be avoided; it serves a vital purpose. It allows us to process loss, connect with others, and ultimately heal. Joy alone cannot create a full emotional life.
Core Memories Shape Our Identity: The movie demonstrates how our core memories, imbued with specific emotions, form the building blocks of our personality. These memories influence our actions, beliefs, and overall outlook on life.
Balance in Emotions Leads to Well-being: The film highlights the importance of not just happiness, but a healthy balance of all emotions. Suppressing certain emotions can lead to imbalances and ultimately hinder our well-being.
Change and Growth are Essential: Moving to a new city and facing the associated challenges teaches Riley that change is an inevitable part of life. Embracing change, even when difficult, can lead to growth and new perspectives.
Family and Friendship are Crucial Support Systems: Riley's journey underscores the importance of having strong relationships with family and friends. They provide a safe space to express emotions, offer comfort during tough times, and celebrate joyful moments.
From "Inside Out" (2):
The Importance of Self-Acceptance: Riley's struggles with self-doubt and anxiety highlight the importance of accepting ourselves, flaws and all. It's okay to not be perfect, and embracing our imperfections is a crucial step in developing a healthy sense of self.
Finding Your Voice: The movie encourages young people to find their voice and express their true feelings, even if it means going against the grain. Authenticity and self-expression are essential for personal growth and well-being.
The Value of Diverse Perspectives: The introduction of new emotions like Ambivalence and Empathy showcases the richness and complexity of human emotions. It reminds us that different perspectives and emotions can coexist and contribute to our understanding of ourselves and others.
The Impact of Social Pressure: The film explores the pressures teenagers face to fit in and conform. It highlights the importance of staying true to oneself and surrounding yourself with supportive people who appreciate you for who you are.
The Power of Vulnerability: Riley's willingness to be vulnerable and express her true feelings, even the difficult ones, ultimately leads to deeper connections with her friends and family. The movie encourages us to embrace vulnerability as a way to build stronger, more authentic relationships.
By combining the lessons from both movies, we can gain a comprehensive understanding of the importance of emotional awareness, acceptance, and expression in our personal growth andrelationships.
